The Sara and John Lindsey Millionth Volume Project

When academic librarires reach the millionth volume mark, they traditionally commemorate the occasion with the acquisition of a special volume.  In 1976, the Texas A&M University Libraries celebrated its first millionth volume; in 2008 we reached four million volumes.  While the four millionth volume marks the growth of our collections and servies through the acquisition of a treasured classic, it also offers an occasion to honor the donors who have made these landmark volumes possible.  Sterling C. Evans (1921) co-founded the Friends of the Library, served as its first president, and contributed to the one millionth volume—the two and two-and-a-half millionth volumes were acquired in his honor.  Sara and John Lindsey (1944) have been intrepid collection builders for Texas A&M, like their esteemed frined Sterling C. Evans.  Not only did the Lindseys contribute to the one and two millionth volumes, but they are the sole contributors to the two-and-a-half millionth, the three millionth, and the four millionth volumes.
