A National Inquiry: Early Illustrated Books in the American West, exhibited in the Mayo/Thomas Room on the first floor of Cushing Library.

With framed images from John James Audubon's Birds of America (1827-38) and Quadrupeds of North America (1844-48), interspersed with Native American portraits from the influential History of the Indian Tribes of North America (1836-44) of McKenney and Hall, Cushing Library is displaying some of the most remarkable images of early American book illustration.  These famous volumes are milestones of scientific thought and ethnographic study, as well as masterpieces of art.  The plates are on display in Cushing Library's Mayo/Thomas Room.
