The Don Kelly Research Collection of Gay Literature and Culture Fellowship 2024-2025

The Texas A&M University Libraries and the College of Arts and Sciences are sponsors of the Don Kelly Research Collection of Gay Literature and Culture Fellowship for the academic year 2024-2025. The Fellowship covers all aspects of LGBTQ+ Studies, from history to the visual arts. Research topics can include, but are not limited to, the following areas relative to the LGBTQ+ communities: pulp fiction, literature, film, protest movements, culture, art, popular literature, serials, international, Andy Warhol, Beat Poets, artist books, race, and gender.

The Fellowship residencies range from two weeks up to four weeks and are based in College Station, utilizing resources within the Don Kelly Research Collection of Gay Literature and Culture housed in the Cushing Memorial Library and Archives. The Fellowship stipend is limited to $1000 per week with a minimum of two weeks ($2,000) and a maximum of $4,000 (4 weeks) for the duration of each residency. 

Requirements

Fellowships are open to scholars and artists, including independent scholars, whose research area focuses on LGBTQ+ issues covered in the Don Kelly Research Collection of Gay Literature and Culture. 

• Each Fellow is required to travel to College Station in the Fall following their residency to present their research. Travel funds will be provided.
• Preference will be given to applicants who live at least 60 miles away from College Station. 
• Texas A&M System employees are not eligible to apply.
• Applicants must be United States citizens or U.S. lawful permanent residents.
• Texas A&M University rules require that visiting scholars on campus, working for an extended period (2+ weeks) and being paid by Texas A&M University, must undergo a background check. 
• The Fellowship is taxable. The Fellowship stipend is limited to: $1000 per week with a minimum of two weeks $2,000 (2 weeks) and a maximum of $4,000 (4 weeks) for the duration of the residency.
• Any expenses incurred beyond the amount of the Fellowship are the responsibility of the Fellow.

How to Apply

The applications are due August 1, 2024. Awardees will be notified by September 1, 2024. The 2024-2025 Fellowship residencies will occur between October 1, 2024 and August 31, 2025.

Fill out the Application Form and upload all of your application materials, including:

• Resume or CV
• Two letters of reference
• A concise and well-written 3-page proposal. The Don Kelly Research Collection of Gay Literature and Culture is only partially cataloged, but a preliminary list is available on LibraryThing.com. Please discuss how the project is relevant to LGBTQ+ studies or advocacy. 
• A list of twenty to fifty titles you want to consult at the Cushing Memorial Library and Archives.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.
