Colonial Mexican Sermons
Colonial Mexican Sermons
Retrieval and Interpretation of Shared Cultural Memory from
the New Spain Collections of the Cushing Library (TAMU) and Biblioteca
Cervantina (Tec de Monterrey)
Two strong technological institutions with extraordinary collections of rare Mexican early printed books (incunables) and manuscripts from the XVI-XVIII centuries are collaborating in an international team comprised of graduate students working under the guidance of senior scholars in Colonial New World and archival research. They have cataloged printed artifacts which constitute a vital repository of information useful in understanding the background of and continuing presence of the epistemological foundations of what is now modern Mexico and Texas, particularly the northern front constituting our contiguous shared borderlands. The preliminary results of this project displayed on this web page include an annotated users' catalog of thematically cohesive portions of colonial Mexican sermons from the Cushing Library and Biblioteca Cervantina and digitized facsimile copies of selected sermons.
This project was funded by a 2006 CONACyT Grant (a partnership of Texas A&M University and Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología) and is headed by Texas A&M faculty, Dr. Nancy Joe Dyer (Department of Hispanic Studies), Dr. Gregory Cuellar (Cushing Library) and Dr. Blanca Lopez de Mariscal from the Monterrey Tec University.
