About Gender & Ethnic Studies

Cushing Library houses some outstanding Gender & Ethnic Studies/Area Studies collections. Recent LGBTQ acquisitions include the Don Kelly Research Collection of Gay Literature and Culture of over 10,000 items and growing, retired A&M Professor Harriette Andreadis Collection, Professors Antonio La Pastina and Dale Rice Collections, and a growing Black lesbian serials collection. Ethnic and Area Studies collections include Black activists’ resources of and on Angela Davis, Amiri Baraka, Eldridge Cleaver, C. R. L. James, the Black Panther Party, and many other resources on the civil and human rights movements from the early 20th century to the present. The Hispanic Studies resources include writers, diplomats, and academics such as Sandra Cisneros, Ernesto Mejia-Sanchez, and the extensive papers of Prof. Yolanda Broyles-Gonzalez. The Asian Studies resources include the Henry Tin Chin Loo popular literature collection and the papers of Robert W. Smith, a leading scholar and practitioner of martial arts.
